The Strategic Consultation Initiatives (SCI) team provides leadership, direction, and resources regarding the province’s Constitutional legal consultation obligations with First Nations critical to the operation of land and resource decision making across government.   

More specifically, SCI provides:

  • leadership, direction, and advice on consultation, accommodation, collaborative approaches and encouraging partnerships between First Nations, industry and the Province; 
  • strategic direction and leadership for the design, development, implementation and management of IM/IT solutions that supports government’s consultation processes specifically, and reconciliation objectives generally with First Nations. 
  • The team may engage with First Nation or industry associations, federal government, and other provincial governments as appropriate to facilitate coordination of undertakings, best practices and common understandings.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Consultation Initiatives, the position manages the overall development, implementation and enhancements of technologies (5 applications and several data sets) that support decision-making and consultation processes and, coordinates and leads research and analysis.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technology discipline or project management, resource management field, indigenous studies, law, economics, business administration, or public administration, and two (2) or more years of related experience; OR
  • Other relevant equivalent combination of education, related experience and training may be considered.

Experience

  • Two (2) or more years of related experience in the following areas:
  • Experience managing multiple projects, including IM/IT projects and assignments, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines under pressure and adjusting to change
  • Administering complex database and systems projects
  • Experience in developing, implementing or managing IM/IT systems and databases
  • Experience preparing technical guides, user documents, publications, presentations, briefing notes and Cabinet Submissions, Treasury Board Submissions, and discussion papers
  • Working collaboratively with and maintaining effective relationships with government personnel, Indigenous peoples, industry and, or stakeholders

 

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience managing matters relating to policies, programs, matters relating to First Nations.
  • Experience in leading or participating in consultations with Indigenous peoples regarding section 35 rights of the Constitution Act, 1982.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
  • Experience with policy development and implementation.
  • Experience working collaboratively with and maintaining effective relationships with government personnel, First Nations, industry and, or stakeholders.
  • Applying change management practices
  • Developing policies or applications/projects and implementation
  • Experience conducting research & analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development
  • Experience supervising staff 

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry.
