The Health Sector Information, Analysis and Reporting Division (HSIAR) set the foundation for the delivery of high quality health sector information, analytics and reporting.  The Division leads key information management functions including data stewardship, governance, security, access, analytics and reporting, quality assurance, performance measurement and evaluations functions. HSIAR sets out to exercise effective governance over data resources, while enabling timely and secure access to data, supporting an integrated, modernized model of information sharing across the health sector. The Division leads the overarching provincial analytic strategy and approach, and performs comprehensive, integrated analysis of health sector performance to ensure a consistent and timely approach health system measurement utilizing a client centred approach.

The Role: The Senior Data Analyst is a Lead Analyst in the division’s business intelligence operations. Work conducted by the position directly contributes to the improvement of ministry or enterprise operations. This work includes business intelligence reporting for internal and external clients to support evidence-based decision making and health system planning. The position supports the evolving functionality and utility of business intelligence applications and reports to meet changing user needs by coordinating resources and establishing and maintaining effective liaison and working relationships with a variety of managers, staff and stakeholders with competing priorities.

The Senior Data Analyst develops and maintains business intelligence applications and supports report generation for major programs and program areas. This includes coordinating, developing, and implementing initiatives and projects required for knowledge management, data analysis and reporting.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, GIS, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements and 1-year related experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, GIS, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements and 2 years related experience; or,
  • Diploma in Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, GIS, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements and 3 years related experience; or,
  • Certification in Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, GIS, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements and 4 years related experience.

Related experience must include:

  • Experience building business intelligence and mapping solutions, e.g., dynamic reports in Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Experience with relational data modeling, e.g., Oracle databases, SSAS, Visual Studio.
  • Experience with analytical and extraction languages (e.g. SAS, SQL, DAX, R, Python) to write computer programs to extract and manipulate data.
  • Experience creating executive-level presentations for the purpose of decision making.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience developing Power BI reports.
  • Experience developing reports in a cloud environment.
