The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) leads strategy, policy and standards for telecommunications, information technology, IT security, and the management of the IM/IT investment portfolio for the Province.  The OCIO is accountable for the operation of a broad government technology infrastructure as a key enabler in support of business transformation of Government, Broader Public Sector organizations (BPS) and through participation inter-jurisdictionally on initiatives to evolve technology and business.

The Hosting Services Branch within the OCIO oversees the management of computing infrastructure (e.g. servers, storage, back-up, mainframe, security) and related services as core to the delivery of applications from all ministries in government and BPS.

Working within the Hosting Services Branch of the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), the Technical Architect is part of the Technical Stewardship team.  Within Technical Stewardship we design new data centre services that are provided to all Ministries across government, as well as the Broader Public Sector (BPS).  This position will be responsible for providing technical oversight on a portfolio of services, as well as having the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the entire portfolio of existing Hosting services.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree in computer science or a related field and a minimum of 3 years related experience in Information Technology, OR diploma, in computer science or a related field and a minimum of 5 years related experience in Information Technology; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience providing a significant focus on customer experience and customer service
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing customer requirements, developing and implementing technical and business solutions.
  • Experience coordinating resolution of technical and business problems while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Experience providing leadership to highly trained and qualified staff and/or consultants.
  • Experience conducting technical feasibility analysis and/or developing technology plans and strategies.

Related experience in Information Technology includes 1 or more of the following:

  • Data centre infrastructure such as physical or virtual servers, networks or storage systems, or
  • Private cloud container infrastructure such as OpenShift or Kubernetes, or

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in 1 or more of the following:

  • VMWare ESXi and/or VMWare NSX-T
  • Dell ECS – Enterprise Object Storage
  • Dell Isilon/PowerScale
  • Network services such as Load Balancing, Proxy, Firewall, and/or IDS/IPS

Lesser qualified applicants may be considered at a lower classification.
