We have two executive level positions available within the Post-secondary Policy and Programs (PSPP) Division.  The Division is instrumental in delivering on the Ministry’s mandate of providing leadership to and oversight of the post-secondary education system to create a well-educated, highly skilled, diverse workforce that is the foundation for a strong and sustainable economy. Working with post-secondary institutions across B.C., we design and deliver policies and programs that promote cohesion in the system and enable access to education and opportunities for all British Columbians to thrive.

As the Executive Director, Strategic Policy and Initiatives, you will be responsible for overseeing the post-secondary policy, intergovernmental, international education, and quality assurance functions of the Ministry.  You will provide strategic leadership and direction and cross government coordination in support of a range of key priorities in the post-secondary sector.  This includes the oversight, planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of a range of legislation, programs and policies.

As the Executive Director, StudentAid BC Branch, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, front-line delivery, and evaluation of almost $1B in financial assistance programs for over 70,000 post-secondary students across the province annually, including loans, grants, scholarships, bursaries, and debt reduction.  You will provide strategic leadership and direction in support of range of key priorities related to student financial assistance and negotiate and administer program changes with the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program. 

Both positions are required to work collaboratively with a diverse range of senior level stakeholders, managing diverse interests and complex and/or sensitive issues.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. business/public administration) and a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior management capacity (preference may be given to candidates with more than five years of experience) in the following areas:
  • Leading and managing large-scale complex, public policy initiatives and/or multi-faceted programs from issues identification through to implementation, with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues.
  • Leading a team, including planning and prioritizing work, hiring, performance management, coaching, engagement, and managing HR issues.

Preference may be given to applicants who have a minimum of five years’ experience in one or more of the following:

  • Related, senior level administrative experience in the post-secondary education sector.
  • Related senior level government experience.
  • Senior level experience leading a front-line operation delivery of services/programs.
  • Representing your organization at public, stakeholder, industry, and/or cross government forums with the authority to negotiate solutions.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
